The Best Clippers for Cockapoos

Cockapoos are one of the most popular breeds of dog in the UK. It’s easy to see why with their fun-loving temperaments and lovely soft fur! All of that fur needs a lot of grooming and attention, and lots of cockapoo owners are starting to clip their dog at home. We’ve put together this collection specifically for cockapoos, so you can make the best choice when choosing your dog clipper.

There are a huge variety of clippers on the market. Considerations when choosing are:

Are you clipping more than one Cockapoo?
It’s likely you’ll need a higher performance clipper – look for high reliability, good quality builds, and long warranties.

Are they happy being clipped?
A quieter model of clipper with less vibration may make things easier if your cockapoo is new to clipping.

Are you wanting to do advanced shaping and trimming, similar to poodle cuts?
Check the blades and combs that are available for your chosen clipper – do they allow for the desired finish? Clippers that support the Snap on A5 blade system will almost certainly have the right blade for your finish.

The Best Blades When Clipping a Cockapoo

The blade you use determines how short your cut. The higher the number blade, the closer the cut. Veterinary clips use No 30 or 40, whereas traditional poodle kennel clip (this is the clip used for comfort, not the show ring) is a No 5 or 7. Speciality blades such as the Skip Tooth blade make cutting through thick, coarse hair much easier.

We recommend a No 10 Narrow for a close cut around the stomach, head, and tail, and a No 5 for the body (wide or narrow, depending on your clipper!).

It may be that you want longer hair, in which case you’ll use a comb. Also called a guard or spacer, this is a piece of kit that attaches to the clipper and preserves the length of the hair, up to an inch long depending on the comb you use. Combs are specific to different clippers, so make sure compatible combs exist before purchasing your clippers.
