Lighting for Stables & Horse Barns

Victoria Goody |

A well-lit stable block becomes an inviting and secure space for your horse, especially as winter approaches and evenings get darker. If you haven't installed lighting in your stable yet, it's a choice you won't regret. Proper lighting allows you to easily prepare feeds, muck out, groom, clip, and pick out your horse's hooves, all without relying on head torches, battery-operated lights, or temporary lighting solutions.

At Clippersharp, we recommend solar lighting for stables, barns, equestrian arenas, and walkways. With solar lights, there's no need to connect to the national grid or worry about recharging batteries—just install them once and enjoy hassle-free lighting! Solar lighting can save you a substantial amount of money, both in terms of ongoing running costs and the expenses involved in installing mains electricity to your yard or stable.

We’ve looked at lots of different lighting solutions, and recommend the Hubi solar lighting solutions as the best compromise of power, reliability, functionally, and cost. This is what we’ve installed around the Clippersharp stable, yard, and barns.

Our Solar Technology Hubi Solar lighting solutions are complete kits suitable for easy installation for stables, barns, workshops, sheds and garages. They include lights, solar panels, and battery unit integrated into the Hubi unit.

Each system is fully expandable so if you require more light you simply add an expansion pack. The Hubi system is lightweight and easy to take with you – extra solar panels or lights can be purchased and taken camping, used in the shed at home, or taken to horse events or camps with you.

Easy To Use Solar Lights For Your Stables

The Solar Technology product range is a very efficient lighting and power system designed specifically for stables, agricultural buildings, workshops, summer houses and any out buildings that have no power supply. These packs are a great solution for the equine world where mains power can be limited.

What is our Solar Stable Lighting?

Our solar solution to light your stable is called the Hubi. It’s a really versatile unit made up of three parts – compact and powerful strip lights, the Hubi itself, and a solar panel. It’s very simple to set up and use with all of the fittings included. The Hubi unit controls all the lights with one convenient switch, as well as having two 5v USB charging points and a 12v socket, just like the cigarette lighter in your car. Think bigger than simply lighting your stable - it’s a fantastic unit for charging your phone while you’re mucking out. Other uses include charging speakers, or powering fans for when it’s hot – when you’ve got power in your stables you’ll be amazed at the possibilities.

Not just for Stables

One of the major advantages to the Hubi system is how versatile it can be. It’s very light-weight and handy to take with you in the horsebox to wherever you may be going. An overnight stay at an event? No problem! On your arrival put the solar panel on the roof of your lorry or tent, hang the lights where you’d like them, and connect it to your hubi system. No more phone running out of battery, or navigating by torchlight!

Some of our customers buy extra lights specifically for their adventures – two lights stay fixed in the stable for use at home, while a couple of extra lights stay in the lorry all set up and ready to plug in when out and about.

How to set up a Hubi system?

All you need is a small hammer and screwdriver. Fixings and screws are all included, no technical knowledge required! Top tip: make sure your cables reach from the lights to the Hubi, and from the Hubi to the solar panel before you start fixing things in.

  1. Decide where you want your lights, and use the screwdriver to screw them in. Plug in the cable. Screw the cables together tightly with the cap for a watertight seal. Use the hammer to gently tap in the cable pins along the length of the cable to keep it tidy against the wall or ceiling.
  2. Screw in your solar panel. No need to worry about angles – the solar panel comes pre-set at the best angle for optimum light capture.
  3. Place your hubi in a convenient location and connect the cable from the lights and the solar panel. If you’ve not got a shelf or surface for your Hubi to sit on, a Hubi wall bracket lets you screw it into the wall wherever you need it.

Let the sunlight do its work, and enjoy your new lighting and power supply!

Why Get Solar Lighting for my Stable?

If your stables are off grid then our solar lighting solution is perfect. It is maintenance free and there are no ongoing costs as the battery is charged by the sun. No more mucking out in the dark! Picking hooves clean and other jobs are suddenly much easier - no need to juggle torches when your stable lights turn on with a switch.

The Hubi Work 16 solar panel will collect enough energy during the course of the day (even in Britain) to power its bulb for between 2 and 7 hours every day of the year (2 hours in the winter – 7 hours for the rest for the year based on the 3w LED bulb).

Which Solar Hubi for you?

  • Solar Hubi 16 provides 16 m2 of lighting
  • Solar Hubi 64 provides 64m2 of lighting

The lithium battery pack in Solar Hubi 64 is 5 times more powerful than the Solar Hubi 16 and this enables it to power higher energy devices such as 12v TVs, laptops and computers etc. Each system is fully expandable so if you require more light you simply add an expansion pack.
